Nice site. My father was with the RCAF "C" Squadron No.4 Wing with the No.2 Electrical and Wireless School in the early 40's. I have a picture of him and a mate in front of one of the wooden huts.

Robert, would be very interested in any photo's you may have to add to the archives.

My late Father, Eric Field, 1176047, did his Radar Training at RAF Yatesbury in 1940/41.
When I was called up to do my National Service in 1957, I signed on for the extra year in order to be given a choice of Trade. In view of my Fathers war Service I decided to become a Radar Operator. After basic training at RAF Bridgnorth I was posted to RAF Compton Bassett for my Radar Operator Training and passed out as an ADO 2. I was then posted to a Radar Calibration Unit at RAF Chigwell in about October 1957. Subsequently I served in Germany at RAF Schleswig and just prior to demob RAF Jever.
I ended my Service with the exalted rank of SAC and my Service Number was 4195688.
I will have a look through my Fathers old photo albums to see if he has any photos of Yatesbury. If I find any I will send them on to you.

I was a member of Class AWF 240, the very last to pass through Yatesbury. The last six months were very relaxed, with few parades and very little marching! I have to admit that I enjoyed my time there with a great bunch of lads. My posting from Yatesbury was to 111 Squadron at Wattisham, then flying the EE Lightning F3 (oh happy days!). Since then I've raised two kids, had only five weeks unemployment, spent most of my working life in the electronics industry and retire next year. Where the hell did all those years go?

Very impressive web site with the ability to gather many memories over the years. I was based at Yatesbury on various radar courses from 1956 to 1960 my service no was 4181040. When I left the RAF in 1960 I went into the electronics industries. Since retiring I have created 2 websites www.kamrafa.co.uk and www.mactartan.co. The main activity on these sites are the promotion of the Royal Air Force tartan designed by an ex RAF pilot.
Will look for some photographs to add to your collection.

Very interesting site. 2733916. Did my square bashing at West Kirby during sept. 1954 and then to Compton Bassett for trade training as a wireless operator then to RAF Ayios Nikolaos Famagusta, Cyprus. BFPO 53. until my demob during Sept 1956. I am retired from our own family business that I started in 1970 and the cmpany is still going strong. I took up am. radio in 1982 and still hold the call sign of G4PKD
